HVAC Repairs in Melbourne

When your heating or cooling stops working, you want it fixed fast, and you want the person who turns up to actually find the fault rather than guess at it. BM Heating & Cooling repairs all types of heating and cooling systems across Melbourne, from our base in the northern suburbs. We diagnose the real cause, fix it with quality parts, and test the system before we leave.

We repair ducted reverse cycle and split systems, multi split systems, gas ducted heating, gas wall heaters, evaporative cooling and hot water, and we work on all the major brands. Whether you bought the system from us or not, our licensed technicians can get it running again.

Breakdowns always seem to happen on the hottest day of summer or the coldest morning of winter, exactly when technicians are booked out. We keep common parts on the van and aim to get to most Melbourne repairs the same day, so you are not left without heating or cooling for long. If you smell gas or suspect a carbon monoxide problem, turn the appliance off and call us straight away.

We repair heating and cooling throughout Reservoir, Preston, Bundoora, Thomastown, Epping, Coburg, Brunswick, Heidelberg, Northcote and right across the Melbourne metro area.

The HVAC Systems We Repair

Our technicians repair the full range of heating and cooling found in Melbourne homes, and these are the faults we are called out to most.

Ducted and split reverse cycle: not cooling or heating, weak airflow, a zone or head not working, water leaking from a vent or the indoor unit, an outdoor unit that will not start, ice on the coil, or an error code on the controller.

Gas ducted and wall heaters: the heater will not ignite, a pilot that will not stay lit, blowing cold air, uneven heating, cycling on and off, strange smells or noises, and safety-critical faults like a cracked heat exchanger.

Evaporative cooling: blowing warm air, not pumping water to the pads, a failed pump or fan motor, water leaks or overflow, and controller faults.

Hot water: no hot water, water that is not hot enough, a pilot that has gone out, a leaking tank or relief valve, a faulty element or thermostat, or a heat pump throwing an error code.

What a Repair Visit Involves

We start every job the same way: find the actual fault before touching a spanner.

Proper diagnosis: we run the system, read any error codes, test the electrical components with a multimeter, and check refrigerant pressures, gas pressure and airflow to pinpoint the cause.

Quality parts: most common faults are fixed on the first visit because we carry parts like capacitors, fan motors, control boards, thermostats, gas valves, thermocouples, sensors and pumps on the van.

Refrigerant and gas work: our technicians are ARCtick licensed to locate and repair refrigerant leaks and regas your system, and a licensed gasfitter handles all gas repairs and carbon monoxide safety checks.

Tested and explained: we run the system after the repair to confirm it is fixed, then explain what went wrong and what we did, in plain language and with an honest quote before any work.

Why Choose BM Heating & Cooling for Repairs?

Fast, Local Response

We are Melbourne based and work fast, often same day, with priority call-outs during heatwaves and cold snaps when your system fails when you need it most.

Licensed & All Brands

ARCtick licensed for refrigerant work and licensed gasfitters for gas repairs, our technicians fix every major brand, no matter who installed the system.

Honest Repair or Replace

We diagnose first and quote before we start, and if a repair is not worth it on an old unit we will tell you honestly and lay out the replacement options.

Repair or Replace? Honest Advice

Not every breakdown means a new system, and not every old unit is worth repairing. Here is how we help you decide.

Worth repairing: a newer system with a single failed part, like a capacitor, fan motor, pump or thermostat, is almost always worth fixing, especially if it is still near warranty.

Worth replacing: as a rule of thumb, if a repair costs more than about half the price of a new system, or the unit is past its typical life, replacement is the smarter spend. Split and ducted refrigerated systems usually last 10 to 15 years, gas ducted heaters 15 to 20, and evaporative coolers 10 to 15.

Safety comes first: a cracked heat exchanger on a gas heater is a carbon monoxide risk and is a replace, not a patch. We will always flag a safety issue rather than paper over it, and explain your replacement options and any Victorian rebates that may apply.

HVAC Repairs FAQs

Yes. We aim to get to most Melbourne breakdowns the same day, and we prioritise emergency call-outs during heatwaves and cold snaps when systems are most likely to fail.

Yes. We repair Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Brivis, Braemar, Rinnai, Bonaire, Fujitsu, Hisense, Panasonic and every other major brand, no matter who installed the system.

We are upfront about pricing before we start. We diagnose the fault first and give you a clear quote, so you know the cost before any repair work goes ahead.

It depends on the fault and the parts needed. Minor fixes like a capacitor or thermostat are inexpensive, while major parts such as a control board or fan motor cost more. We always diagnose and quote before we start.

As a rule of thumb, if the repair is less than about half the cost of a new system and the unit is under 10 to 15 years old, repair is the better value. Older systems with repeat faults or discontinued parts are usually better replaced, and we will give you honest advice either way.

Common causes are low refrigerant from a leak, a failed capacitor or compressor, a dirty coil, or a faulty control board. We find the exact cause on-site with proper diagnostics rather than guessing.

Yes. That is usually a faulty thermocouple, an ignition fault or a gas valve, all repairable by our licensed gasfitter, who also checks the heater for carbon monoxide safety while on site.

Yes. Our technicians are ARCtick licensed to legally locate refrigerant leaks, repair them and regas your air conditioning system, which is work that must be done by a licensed technician.
